Breaking the Shackles of My Multi-media Obsession

I realized that I have been reluctant to post simply because our printer is packed away and I, therefore, have no way to upload pictures of our big trans-Atlantic move. However, I have been hit by the realization that such a need for digital photos is a product of my twenty-first century, internet-saturated, mindset. So, goodbye JPEG-Megapixel-YouTube bondage! I am here, I am uniting myself with the generations before me who have relied on the written word to communicate their unique life experiences with those whom are geographically distant...

We have been in Germany for nine days. We lived in a hotel for the first eight while the Army and my dear spouse duked it out over the size government quarters to which we are entitled. We have opted for a "modest" two bedroom one bathroom apartment on the second floor of a three story stairwell in order to be closer to the commissary, px, chapel, playgrounds, downtown Wiesbaden, and new friends. I think the demands of downsizing our living space should actually prove to be a blessing. We are a family that likes to live on top of one another, and it will mean less cleaning, a renewed commitment to keep the tv turned off and the beginning of sibling room-sharing. The windows are large, the big trees are plentiful, the playgrounds are much more adventurous than those of the States. The bathroom has a heated towel warmer and the washing machine is so vigorous that my cloth diapers couldn't be happier. The Army is loaning us furniture until ours arrives. It is functional and durable so I am not scared to have the kids around it.

The sense of community here seems to be wonderful. Thus far, several families have cooked us dinner, taken us to get phones and brunch, driven us around to look at different quarters while 4 months pregnant (shout out to you, JBart ;)) , loaned us sheets and pots and shower curtains, and even helped my husband cart 1000 lbs. of luggage from the hotel to the home. There is a sense of "been-there-that-was-tough-everyone's-extended-family-is-faraway" that leads everyone to help out the new guys. That is us. We are the new guys.

The Subaru was shipped from San Diego over four weeks ago, yet it will not arrive for another 2.5 weeks, so that makes for interesting challenges in getting established. I am trying to figure out how to rig the borrowed high chair onto our double stroller and walk it back here from the lending closet.

So, with suitcases everywhere and our shower curtain freshly hung, the L Clan would like to report that we like it here.

CINCO ANOS --HOLLAR!

That is a ridiculous title. But we did celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary today.

We enjoyed a lovely bay-side seafood meal, followed by intimate live theater, all while on bike in the perfect San Diego evening while both chil'ns were cared for by their grandparents.

We love each other, good choice.
