She's a cowgirl at heart!
She's protecting her shin guards with boots so as to ensure longevity of guards and cut costs! Genius!!
Perhaps not what Mom meant, but certainly a creative alternative. "Comfort" is relative, especially when cowgirl boots are involved.
There is no doubt that, in those overalls, Seth was the cutest little man on the sidelines.
